The Government of B.C. and the Central Okanagan School District have partnered to invest $36.1 million for a brand new Okanagan Mission Junior Middle school for students in the fast growing neighbourhood of Okanagan Mission.

The new $19.7-million Crosstown Elementary school officially opened today, creating more classroom space for the rapidly growing city centre and providing students with a unique urban learning environment. 

Three programs promoting healthy eating and access to local fruit and vegetables for lower-income families, seniors and young students are receiving a combined $3 million to continue their successful programs.

Students throughout the province, even those living in the most isolated areas, now have access to high-speed Internet in the classroom to support their learning and development as the Next Generation Network (NGN) nears completion.

The new joint executive Surrey project board has approved the first priority project to be expedited in Surrey – a new Clayton-area elementary school – delivering on its commitment to create 5,200 new student seats.

Students in the Quesnel School District will benefit from $1.3 million in provincial funding for school upgrade projects, classroom supplies and a new school bus.

Government is providing school districts with a total of $95 million to help them extend the life of their facilities, put new supplies in classrooms and buy new school buses. 

Students in the Abbotsford School District will benefit from almost $2.5 million in provincial funding for school upgrade projects, classroom supplies and new school buses, MLA Simon Gibson announced on behalf of Education Minister Mike Bernier.
