Education Minister Mike Bernier released the following statement clarifying utilization targets for school construction in B.C.:

Families in the Cowichan Valley school district will no longer pay fees for students riding school buses within their schools’ catchment area thanks to $283,524 in funding under the new provincial Student Transportation Fund.

Families in the Abbotsford school district will no longer pay fees for students riding school buses within their schools’ catchment area thanks to $253,969 in funding under the new provincial Student Transportation Fund.

Families in the Chilliwack school district will no longer pay fees for students riding school buses within their schools’ catchment area and will also benefit from improved transportation services thanks to $329,456 in funding under the new provincial Student Transportation Fund.

Families in the Kootenay-Columbia school district will no longer pay fees for students riding school buses within their schools’ catchment area and will also benefit from improved transportation services thanks to $242,977 in funding under the new provincial Student Transportation Fund.

Students need to connect with the skills required in our changing world – and two Ministry of Education programs aim to do just that by helping school districts connect kids with  opportunities in skilled trades and tech training.

Teachers at Burnaby’s Learning Instruction for Newcomers to Canada (LINC) program are being recognized on International Literacy Day as the B.C. recipient of the Council of the Federation Literacy Award for their efforts to connect immigrants and refugees with literacy skills they need to get involved in their community.
