Mental health supports are available for people who have been and continue to be adversely affected by historic wildfires throughout B.C. this summer.

Work is underway to restore access on Highway 1 through the southern Interior, after wildfire activity forced closures of sections of the highway.

Bowinn Ma, Minister of Emergency Management and Climate Readiness, has released the following statement about travel restrictions for the purpose of staying in temporary accommodation in West Kelowna:

To help ensure accommodation is available for critical-response personnel and the tens of thousands of people evacuated due to wildfires, the Province is restricting travel for the purpose of staying in temporary accommodation in several communities in the Okanagan.

The Province is preparing for extreme fire behaviour due to potential dry lightning and strong winds.

People throughout British Columbia are encouraged to be prepared for heat as many regions of the province will experience high temperatures beginning Sunday, Aug. 13, 2023.
