Simon Gibson, MLA for Abbotsford-Mission, on behalf of Minister of State for Emergency Preparedness Naomi Yamamoto, announced $10 million in flood protection funding for the City of Abbotsford as part of the Province’s major investment in emergency preparedness and public safety.

Simon Gibson, MLA for Abbotsford-Mission, on behalf of Minister of State for Emergency Preparedness Naomi Yamamoto, announced a $10.5-million investment in dike and pump upgrades to the Fraser Valley Regional District’s Nicomen Island diking system, as part of the Province’s major investment in emergency preparedness and public safety.

As part of the Province’s investment of over $80 million in emergency preparedness and public safety, Minister of Energy and Mines and MLA for East Kootenay Bill Bennett announced support for several projects in the Kootenay region on behalf of Minister of State for Emergency Preparedness Naomi Yamamoto.

Disaster Financial Assistance (DFA) is now available to eligible British Columbians in areas of the province that were impacted by severe weather and flooding that occurred from Nov. 3-14, 2016.

The final portion of diking designed to provide flood protection for Duncan and the Koksilah industrial and business complex area is now complete thanks to $4.133 million in funding from the federal and provincial governments and the Cowichan Valley Regional District (CVRD).

The Government of British Columbia is providing $2.5 million to the Peace River Regional District (PRRD) to undertake debris removal and preventative work, designed to reduce flood risk in the region.

As part of the public safety funding announced in February 2016, the Province is committing $80,000 in funding toward a flood mitigation assessment project in the Strathcona Regional District.

As part of the public safety funding announced in February 2016, the Province is committing $15.52 million in funding toward two flood mitigation projects in the City of Surrey that will protect thousands of homes, landmark institutions, and business and industries employing thousands of people. 

As part of the public safety funding announced in February 2016, the Province is committing $33,000 toward an assessment of the flood risk around Mara Lake shores.
