Beginning on Monday, April 1, 2024, people in B.C. will start saving on their energy bills with the B.C. Electricity Affordability Credit that will provide the average BC Hydro residential customer with savings of $100.

The Province will implement a backstop to the federal cap on emissions from the oil and gas sector to support a clean-energy future for British Columbians.

Josie Osborne, Minister of Energy, Mines and Low Carbon Innovation, and Brittny Anderson, MLA for Nelson-Creston, met with community climate leaders in Nelson to discuss how Budget 2024 can help support people in the region to transition to a low-carbon economy and meet shared CleanBC goals.

British Columbia’s electric highway will get a supercharge this year with $30 million from Budget 2024 to add more than 500 public charging stations to more than 5,000 already available across the province.

New advanced chemical processes being developed and refined in British Columbia will give the mining industry a way to extract critical minerals with almost no net environmental impact, helping advance B.C.’s transition to a low-carbon economy.

With support from the Province, a B.C. clean-technology company is making a dent in the cost of heating and cooling buildings, cars and marine vessels with a new smart-window technology that automatically tints, based on what the sun is doing.

New interim measures place restrictions on mineral claim registrations and mining activities in Gitxaała Nation and Ehattesaht First Nation territories, while the important work of modernizing B.C.’s Mineral Tenure Act (MTA) proceeds.

The Province is advancing work to reform the Mineral Tenure Act (MTA) in alignment with the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples with a clear process for co-operation and consultation with First Nations in British Columbia and engagement with industry and all interested parties.
