As part of Clean Air Day, the Government of British Columbia is announcing changes to the greenhouse gas reduction regulation to encourage more fleet operators to switch from diesel and gasoline to cleaner-burning natural gas to run their buses, trucks and marine vessels.

The provincial government is providing regulatory support for proposed expansion at FortisBC’s Tilbury liquefied natural gas (LNG) facility in Delta, and proposed upgrades to FortisBC’s natural gas transmission infrastructure in the Lower Mainland.

Government and Cariboo Regional District officials continue to work together to address the breach at the Mount Polley tailings pond, to test the local drinking water to determine if it is safe for locals to drink or bathe in, and to help ensure the safety and well-being of local residents.

Minister of Energy and Mines Bill Bennett made the following statement in response to the mine tailing pond incident at Mt. Polley Mine:

A new agreement signed between the Province, the Halfway River First Nation (HRFN) and the BC Oil and Gas Commission (Commission) will support economic development and provide greater land use certainty in northeast British Columbia.

The Ministry of Energy, Mines and Natural Gas has undertaken a study on the potential employment impacts created by LNG development in B.C.
