Premier John Horgan and George Heyman, Minister of Environment and Climate Change Strategy, have issued the following statement to celebrate Earth Day 2022:

British Columbians are embracing zero-emission vehicles (ZEVs) faster than any other jurisdiction in North America, with ZEVs representing 13% of all new light-duty vehicle sales in B.C. last year, according to the province’s 2021 Zero-Emission Vehicle Update.

B.C.’s Climate Solutions Council, which provides independent advice to government on climate programs, actions and accountability, has been renewed with the appointment of six new members.

The CleanBC Program for Industry is expanding to build greater collaboration between industry and B.C.’s clean tech sector.

New projects around British Columbia will reduce climate pollution and help businesses create new opportunities for people in the clean economy, thanks to significant investments from government and industry.

B.C. communities continue to benefit from a provincial program that provides incentives to people replacing wood stoves with cleaner heating options.

As of Feb. 1, 2022, people in B.C. will be able to return milk and milk-substitute beverage containers for a refund to reduce waste as part of the Province’s CleanBC Plastics Action Plan.

Communities across British Columbia will be receiving record investments in critical projects to reduce pollution, increase health and expand opportunities in response to a changing climate.
