With B.C. Day around the corner, everyone has a role to play in helping to prevent wildfires and having a safe, healthy long weekend.

The Province has awarded over $330,000 to successful applicants to continue tsunami debris removal projects along B.C.’s coastline.

The ministries of Justice and Environment this afternoon issued the following update on the Province’s efforts to support the federal government’s response to a potential marine incident off the western coast of Haida Gwaii.

The Nuu-chah-nulth Tribal Council, representing 14 First Nations along the west coast of Vancouver Island, has been awarded $96,200 to establish and operate a tsunami debris cleanup program.

Five coastal First Nations have been awarded $60,000 over one year to establish a tsunami debris management and cleanup program along the central coast of British Columbia, north of Vancouver Island to the Alaska Panhandle.

A partnership of local governments and First Nations have been awarded $139,000 over two years to establish a tsunami debris management and cleanup program on Haida Gwaii.

Ten members of the Conservation Officer Service have been awarded the Peace Officer Exemplary Service Medal by the Honourable Judith Guichon, Lt-Gov. of British Columbia and Environment Minister Terry Lake.
