The Nahatlatch Forest Service Road has been reopened due to decreased wildfire activity and a reduced threat from the Mehatl Creek fire.

The Nahatlatch Forest Service Road at the west end of Nahatlatch Lake will stay closed until further notice to help protect public safety and give unhindered access to wildfire crews.

Effective at noon on July 23, 2014, campfires will once again be permitted throughout the Coastal Fire Centre's jurisdiction.

A lightning storm, which tracked through the Fraser Canyon and surrounding areas on July 14, 2014, ignited wildfires that continue to burn in the Fraser Canyon, Nahatlatch River and Mahatl Creek drainages.

Effective at noon on July 17, 2014, all open burning (including campfires, Category 2 open fires and Category 3 open fires) will be prohibited in all areas of the Coastal Fire Centre except the "fog zone" and Haida Gwaii.

Effective at noon on June 3, 2014, the size of open fires will be restricted in the Coastal Fire Centre to help prevent human-caused wildfires and protect the public.

The public is invited to review and comment before Feb. 18, 2014, on plans to establish more than 18,000 hectares of old growth management areas along the Sunshine Coast.

Effective at noon on Friday, Sept. 6, Category 2 open fires (also referred to as backyard burning or debris burning) will be permitted within the Coastal Fire Centre's jurisdiction, due to a decreased risk of wildfires.

Effective at noon on Aug. 26, 2013, the campfire ban in the Coastal Fire Centre was rescinded due to a decreased risk of wildfires. Campfires now will be permitted throughout the Coastal Fire Centre.
