Effective at noon on May 15, 2016, Category 2 and Category 3 open fires will be prohibited throughout the Kamloops Fire Centre to help prevent human-caused wildfires and protect the public.

The B.C. government has proclaimed May 2016 as “Invasive Species Action Month” to help raise awareness of the environmental and economic damage that invasive plants and animals can cause if they become established in the province.

Effective at noon on Wednesday, April 27, 2016, Category 3 open fires will once again be allowed in some southern sections of the Prince George Fire Centre’s jurisdiction. However, Category 2 open burning remains restricted throughout the entire Prince George Fire Centre.

Effective at noon on April 20, 2016, Category 2 and Category 3 open fires will be prohibited throughout the Prince George Fire Centre to help prevent human-caused wildfires and protect public safety.

Effective at noon on April 4, 2016, Category 2 and Category 3 open fires will be prohibited throughout the Cariboo Fire Centre to help prevent human-caused wildfires and protect public safety.

BC Parks, the Fish and Wildlife Compensation Program and the BC Wildfire Service will be conducting a 45-hectare ecosystem restoration burn west of Tulip Creek in Syringa Provincial Park.

The Ministry of Environment and the Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations are planning to conduct an ecosystem restoration burn in the Churn Creek Protected Area between March 15 and April 29, weather permitting. 

BC Parks is planning to conduct an eight-hectare prescribed burn in Monck Provincial Park, northeast of Merritt, in an effort to restore the area’s ecosystem and reduce wildfire risks.

Current weather conditions allow private landowners, BC Wildfire Service personnel and industry partners to reduce wildfire risks by burning piles of wood debris.

Effective at noon on Thursday, Oct. 15, 2015, the current open burning ban will be completely rescinded within the Kamloops Fire Centre’s jurisdiction.
