With many parts of British Columbia experiencing colder weather and more people lighting their fireplaces and wood stoves, residents are reminded that anyone who cuts, collects or uses firewood must ensure that it is harvested legally.

The BC Wildfire Service is using a modified response on the eastern perimeter of the Bernard Creek wildfire, which covers about 4.7 hectares and is burning about five kilometres west of Mount Loki, across Kootenay Lake from Kaslo.

Effective at noon (Pacific time) on Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2019, Category 2 and Category 3 open burning prohibitions within the Southeast Fire Centre’s jurisdiction will be amended, due to a decreased wildfire risk.

Strong winds in the Cassiar Fire Zone on Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2019, prompted increased fire activity and caused two of the more prominent wildfires within the Northwest Fire Centre to grow.  

The BC Wildfire Service is preparing to conduct planned ignition operations on the Eagle Bluff wildfire to help gain containment on its northern perimeter.
