New mobile radio communication protocols are being implemented throughout B.C. to improve safety for resource road users.

The Wildfire Management Branch has issued a road restriction order for forest service roads near the Raft River wildfire, which is burning about 20 kilometres northeast of Clearwater. The restrictions will take effect at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, May 13, 2015.

This past weekend, the Wildfire Management Branch's Southeast Fire Centre responded to four new wildfires in the East Kootenay.

Smoke may be visible in parts of the Fort Nelson and Peace regions over the next week as prescribed burning continues in those areas.

Residents of Horsefly, Likely and neighbouring communities are reminded that, due to ongoing site rehabilitation of Hazeltine Creek, the Horsefly-Likely Forest Service Road (Ditch Road) remains closed to all unauthorized persons and vehicle traffic until further notice.

The Province is once again conducting a pike reward program for anglers in southeast B.C. to help reduce the influx of invasive northern pike in the region.

A series of prescribed burns is planned for the Bevel Creek, Ospika River, Tobin Lake and Mt. Moodie areas in the Mackenzie Natural Resource District from May 1 to May 31, 2015, weather conditions permitting.

The Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations is planning to conduct over 30 prescribed burns at multiple locations in the Peace Region between April 20 and June 7, weather permitting.
