Even as firefighters continue to battle blazes throughout the province, the British Columbia government is already implementing a long-term plan to recover from this year’s unprecedented wildfire activity and support affected British Columbians.

Effective immediately, the new allowable annual cut for the Cranbrook Timber Supply Area (TSA) is set at 808,000 cubic metres, chief forester Diane Nicholls announced today.

BC Timber Sales (BCTS) forestry operations in the Snowden Forest, north of John Hart Lake, are planned to restart in spring 2018, with operational phases continuing through 2019.

Effective immediately, the allowable annual cut for the portion of the Pacific Timber Supply Area (TSA) outside of the Great Bear Rainforest is 803,300 cubic metres, chief forester Diane Nicholls announced today.

Effective July 13, 2017, the allowable annual cut for Canadian Forest Products Ltd.’s Tree Farm Licence (TFL) 18, northwest of Clearwater, is 175,000 cubic metres, chief forester Diane Nicholls announced.

Effective immediately, the new allowable annual cut for the Invermere Timber Supply Area is 496,720 cubic metres, chief forester Diane Nicholls announced. After five years, the cut level will decrease to 424,800 cubic metres.

The BC Wildfire Service is planning a controlled burn near the base of Mount Horetsky, approximately 39 kilometres northwest of Fort Babine. The burn will only take place if weather conditions permit and may begin as early as May 28, 2017.

Alkali Resource Management Ltd. and the Esketem’c First Nation, with the assistance of the BC Wildfire Service, plan to conduct a series of prescribed burns in the Mayfield Lake area between April 27 and May 15, 2017, weather conditions permitting.
