If weather permits on Sept. 29, 2016, the BC Wildfire Service will conducting an 11.7-hectatre prescribed burn four kilometres north of Nevertouch Lake, 50 kilometres east of Kelowna, B.C.

The Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations plans to conduct a series of prescribed burns at sites west and south of Williams Lake between Sept. 27 and Nov. 11, 2016, weather conditions permitting.

Effective at noon PDT on Sept. 20, 2016, Category 2 open fires will once again be permitted throughout the Southeast Fire Centre, due to a decreased risk of wildfire in the region.

The BC Wildfire Service will be burning piles of woody debris along a road known as East Road, near the Halfmoon Carlson Forest Service Road and about two kilometres northwest of Sechelt.

Smoke may be visible north of Canim Lake, near 100 Mile House, due to large-scale industrial burning that’s currently underway to clear out wood debris and reduce wildfire risks in the area.

The BC Wildfire Service will be conducting a series of prescribed fuel management burns in the Selkirk Heights area (near Golden) from Sept. 7-9, 2016, if site and weather conditions are favourable.

Animals needing a home in Prince George will benefit from a Crown land lease of 1.18 hectares beside Exhibition Park to the North Cariboo District Branch of the BC Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (BC SPCA).

BC Wildfire Service firefighters have made good progress on many of the lightning-caused wildfires that started in the Southeast Fire Centre over the past week.

Effective at noon on Sept. 1, 2016, campfires and Category 3 open fires will once again be permitted throughout the Coastal Fire Centre’s jurisdiction.

Summer is gradually coming to a close, but the wildfire risk in some areas of the province remains a concern.
