With cooler weather coming to many parts of B.C. and more people thinking about lighting their fireplaces or wood stoves, Vancouver Island residents are reminded that anyone who cuts, collects or uses firewood must ensure that it is harvested legally.

Effective at noon on Friday, Sept. 27, 2019, Category 3 open fires will once again be allowed throughout the Cariboo Fire Centre’s jurisdiction, due to weather conditions and a decreased wildfire risk in the region.

The BC Wildfire Service reminds its industry partners to use caution when carrying out industrial and high-risk activities, since the Southeast Fire Centre is experiencing a heightened number of Category 3 incidents.

The BC Wildfire Service plans to burn approximately 10 piles in Joe Rich, west of Philpott Road.

The Ministry of Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development and Cook’s Ferry Indian Band plan to conduct a prescribed burn on the Shaniken 3 Indian Reserve, located southwest of the community of Spences Bridge.

BC Wildfire Service plans to burn piles of woody debris on the western slope of Dragon Mountain.
