The Arctic cold front currently moving through the Northwest Fire Centre has brought cooler temperatures and rain to most of the region.

In the spirit of partnership and reconciliation, a landmark agreement to explore salmon reintroduction into the Columbia River Basin between the Syilx Okanagan, Ktunaxa and Secwepemc Indigenous Nations, Canada and British Columbia was signed today in Castlegar.

The Province is restricting water use by select users on the Koksilah River to protect fish populations, which are under threat due to low water flows in the river.

The BC Wildfire Service will take a “modified response” approach to the northern flank of the Eagle Bluff wildfire, now that all appropriate planned ignitions to slow the spread of the fire have been completed.

Strong winds in the Cassiar Fire Zone on Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2019, prompted increased fire activity and caused two of the more prominent wildfires within the Northwest Fire Centre to grow.  

The BC Wildfire Service is preparing to conduct planned ignition operations on the Eagle Bluff wildfire to help gain containment on its northern perimeter.

The BC Wildfire Service has implemented an area restriction order for Crown land in the vicinity of the Eagle Bluff wildfire in order to protect public safety and ensure the safety of firefighting personnel. This area restriction is effective as of noon on Aug.13, 2019.

The BC Wildfire Service expects that wildfires burning in the Cassiar Fire Zone will become more active today, Aug. 13, 2019, due to strong winds in the region. This wind pattern is forecasted to continue until Friday, Aug. 16, 2019.
