The BC Wildfire Service reminds the public that they must stay clear of firefighting aircraft collecting water from Lower Arrow Lake and Upper Arrow Lake, in response to the Syringa Complex wildfires burning about 17 kilometres northwest of Castlegar.

The BC Wildfire Service and its ministry partners are working to improve their collaboration and partnerships with First Nations governments related to wildfire response and recovery efforts. 

The Province is closing all angling on the Thompson River below Kamloops Lake, and on portions of the Fraser River, in response to low steelhead returns.

The Atluck Main Road has been temporarily closed to the public at the 18.5-kilometre mark to help protect public safety and assist firefighting operations.

The Province is reopening the Horsefly River to angling from Quesnel Lake to the Woodjam Bridge, after a temporary closure earlier this month that aimed to protect rainbow trout from health risks associated with rising water temperatures.

Weather permitting, the BC Wildfire Service will conduct planned ignitions on the Bulldog Mountain wildfire, located about 30 kilometres west of Castlegar.

Whatever your activities this Labour Day long weekend, remember there are wildfire crews working hard in the bush.

The Province is taking additional action to manage moose in the Chilcotin part of the Cariboo Region after a decade-long population decline, wildfire impacts and concerns from First Nations.

Effective at noon on Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2018, campfires were again allowed in the Fort Nelson Forest District and Peace Forest District.
