The Government of British Columbia is providing $1,134,500 in grants to help manage the spread of invasive plants in the Kootenay and Columbia Shuswap regions, Nelson-Creston MLA Michelle Mungall and Kootenay West MLA Katrine Conroy announced on behalf of Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development Minister Doug Donaldson.

A prescribed burn is being planned at the BC Wildfire Service’s Puntzi Forward Attack Base, between May 2 and May 11, 2018, to reduce wildfire risks and prevent the encroachment of trees that could pose a hazard to aircraft.

The Brennan Creek Recreation Site on the west shore of Adams Lake remains closed to all users until further notice.

A 60-hectare prescribed burn will be conducted in the Winlaw Creek area to help reduce wildfire risks and restore local ecosystems.

Beginning June 1, 2018, the Ministry of Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development will begin deactivating up to 500 kilometres of permit roads located in BC Timber Sales operating areas, throughout the Quesnel Natural Resource District – weather permitting.

Restoring ecosystems is the goal behind two local prescribed burns in the Satellite Hill and South Fork areas.

The weather throughout the Cariboo Fire Centre is expected to be warm and breezy until the beginning of next week, with dry conditions persisting throughout most of the region.
