Premier Christy Clark announced that the largest shipment of mass timber from British Columbia to India is en route.

Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations Minister Steve Thomson has issued the following statement in response to a ruling by the U.S. International Trade Commission:

The Great Bear Rainforest (Forest Management) Act is set to take effect Jan. 1, 2017, following the enactment of regulations that bring the act into force and fulfill government’s commitment to ecosystem-based management in the Great Bear Rainforest.

Vehicle access closures that took effect in early September in areas surrounding Iron, Big Sand and Little Sand creeks are being lifted to allow further study and more extensive community consultation.

The Province has extended the reduced fee in place for log exports in the Mid-Coast Timber Supply Area until June 2018 to support forestry jobs in the area.

Comments are being accepted until Feb. 28, 2017, on proposed amendments to the 2006 Land Use Objectives Order in the Kiteen (26,000 hectares) and Skeena Islands (4,500 hectares) portions of the Kalum Sustainable Resource Management Plan (SRMP) area in northwestern B.C.
