The Prince George Fire Centre has responded to nine suspicious fires in the past two weeks, all within the Fort St. John Fire Zone near Halfway River and Graham River.

Due to dry conditions and increasing wildfire risks, Category 2 open fires (e.g., backyard burning) and fireworks use will be prohibited in the Fort St. John and Dawson Creek fire zones effective at 12 midnight MST on Monday, May 12, 2014.

The Wildfire Management Branch has responded to seven new wildfires in the Prince George Fire Centre over the past 24 hours. It's suspected that all of these fires were caused by people.

The Prince George Fire Centre received multiple reports about three grass fires in the Peace Region this week. All of these fires were human-caused.

The Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations plans to conduct a prescribed burn in a 200-hectare plot of forest near Lintz Lake this week to remove dead or damaged trees and prepare the ground for reforestation.

Effective at noon on Aug. 20, 2013, campfires and all open fires will be permitted throughout the Prince George Fire Centre's jurisdiction, due to a decreased risk of wildfires.

Effective at noon on Aug. 2, 2013, all open fires are prohibited within southern and western parts of the Prince George Fire Centre's jurisdiction to help prevent human-caused wildfires.

An abandoned campfire at the west end of Summit Lake started a small wildfire Sunday evening. Quick action by members of the public kept the fire small, and an initial attack crew from the Wildfire Management Branch extinguished the fire.
