British Columbia’s deputy chief forester has set a new allowable annual cut (AAC) level for the Sunshine Coast Timber Supply Area (TSA).

People in B.C. are invited to provide input to help inform the next stage of the Sunshine Coast Forest Landscape Plan (FLP).

Areas in the Sunshine Coast are undergoing name changes to reflect the language, culture and heritage of local Indigenous peoples.

Effective immediately, British Columbia’s chief forester Diane Nicholls has set new allowable annual cut (AAC) levels for the Tree Farm License (TFL) 43, located near Powell River. 

As part of its ongoing commitment to reduce wildfire threats, the B.C. government is providing more than $53,000 in community resiliency investment grants to support projects on the Sunshine Coast.

Effective at noon on Sept. 18, 2017, the BC Wildfire Service has rescinded the campfire prohibition that was in effect within the Coastal Fire Centre’s jurisdiction. The use of tiki torches (and similar kinds of torches), outdoor stoves, gas stoves and other portable campfire equipment is also now permitted.

Effective at noon on Thursday, July 6, 2017, all open fires (including campfires) will be prohibited throughout the Coastal Fire Centre’s jurisdiction, with the exception of Haida Gwaii and the area known as the “Fog Zone”.

The B.C. government is following through on its commitment to support economic diversification in rural British Columbia by distributing over $750,000 in new project-development grants to help small communities strengthen local economies.

Effective at noon on Sept. 1, 2016, campfires and Category 3 open fires will once again be permitted throughout the Coastal Fire Centre’s jurisdiction.
