Effective at noon (Pacific time) on Saturday, Aug. 18, 2018, an existing prohibition on open burning in parts of the Prince George Fire Centre — including campfires, Category 2 open burns and Category 3 open burns — will be expanded to include the Peace Forest District and the Fort Nelson Forest District.

Effective at 8 a.m. PDT on Sunday, Aug. 12, 2018, an area restriction order will be in place for Crown Land in the vicinity of the Hugh Allen Creek wildfire, located about 60 kilometres southeast of the Village of Valemount on the east side of Kinbasket Lake.

Smoke originating from the Comstock Lake wildfire, about 100 kilometres west of Hixon, has drifted north and is now visible throughout the Prince George area.

The BC Wildfire Service is currently responding to 72 new wildfires in the Prince George and Northwest fire centres, all of which started on Wednesday, June 20, 2018.

Due to reduced fire activity and recent progress made by firefighting crews, the BC Wildfire Service has rescinded the order to restrict access that was implemented on May 27, 2018, for areas around the Tommy Lakes wildfire.

Effective immediately an Area Restriction Order is in effect for Crown land in the vicinity of the Tommy Lakes wildfire, located approximately 29 kilometres northeast of mile 109-Highway 97 (Alaska Highway).

Effective at noon on Thursday, May 17, 2018, an existing Category 2 open burning prohibition in parts of the Prince George Fire Centre will be expanded to include the entire fire centre, to reduce wildfire risks and protect public safety.
