Twenty-eight B.C. communities have been awarded age-friendly community planning and project grants to support strategies to help seniors stay mobile, physically active, socially connected and healthy.

Parliamentary Secretary for Healthy Living and Seniors Michelle Stilwell announced that eight B.C. communities will receive Age-friendly BC Recognition awards for 2014.

In the past five weeks, four automated external defibrillators (AEDs) were placed in the Kamloops area, increasing the chance of a good medical outcome for residents who may suffer a sudden cardiac arrest.

A free local program that gives children and their parents valuable tools and tips to make healthy lifestyle choices and achieve healthy weights is expanding in British Columbia.

The B.C. government, in collaboration with the BC Healthy Communities Society, released a guide to help interested local governments and First Nations better plan for events involving alcohol, creating a safer, healthier setting for event-goers and the community.

Local governments can now apply to have their efforts in creating supportive environments for their community’s seniors recognized.
