Negotiations between K’ómoks First Nation, B.C. and Canada are coming to a close and the public is invited to attend in-person and virtual open houses.

A new reconciliation agreement between Stz’uminus First Nation and British Columbia establishes commitments to work together on community priorities and future land transfers, provides support for economic development, and establishes funding for future environmental remediation activities in Ladysmith Harbour.

Premier John Horgan and Murray Rankin, Minister of Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation, have issued the following statement marking National Indigenous Peoples Day:

First Nations governments financially challenged by the pandemic and natural disasters will benefit from a one-time provincial grant that makes up for the loss of shared gaming revenues due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Ahousaht First Nation Chief Councillor Greg Louie and Tyee Hawiih Hasheukumis welcomed Murray Rankin, Minister of Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation, to their community to celebrate a memorandum of understanding (MOU) that will help advance long-lasting reconciliation through respect, co-operation, partnership and a recognition of Ahousaht First Nation rights.

Ten Indigenous communities on Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands will join B.C.’s clean-energy sector with local projects following support from the Province.

The Province has returned almost 100 hectares (247 acres) of Crown land called kwentan makw'ali to the shíshálh Nation.

The Government of B.C. is supporting the shíshálh Nation’s plans to build and operate new culturally appropriate housing for their members, with a particular focus on Elders, women and children, and others in need of affordable housing in their community.
