The Government of British Columbia has proclaimed May 1-7, 2016, as North American Occupational Safety and Health Week in B.C. and encourages employers and workers to get involved by planning an event or activity around this year’s theme – make safety a habit.

Minister of Jobs, Tourism and Skills Training and Minister Responsible for Labour Shirley Bond has released the following statement on the national Day of Mourning:

More than 5,500 British Columbians across the province are receiving training for jobs in their communities, thanks to an investment of almost $36 million from the provincial and federal governments under the Canada-British Columbia Job Fund.

British Columbia is celebrating the multiple sectors that make up B.C.’s vibrant and flourishing creative industry, including film, television, interactive media, music, magazine and book publishing.

The Government of British Columbia, Encana and the Ending Violence Association of B.C. (EVA BC) have partnered to create and launch a new training video that brings the successful “Be More Than a Bystander” campaign aimed at ending violence against women to the resource industry.

The LifeQuilt, a memorial to young workers and others who have lost their lives in the workplace visited the B.C. Parliament Buildings on April 12, 2016, in an effort to raise safety awareness of workplace safety.

British Columbians are invited to celebrate authors, publishers and the written word on BC Book Day.
