In September 2012, the government launched a Skills and Training Plan to expand and align skills training programs with economic opportunities throughout the province to ensure British Columbia has a workforce with the right skills, in the right places, at the right times.

Government has invested $100,000 in a Labour Market Partnerships Program agreement with the Automobile Retailers Association (ARA) and its automotive industry partners to undertake labour market research to identify the future labour needs of the sector.

The B.C. government is investing $500,000 to extend a mining and environmental training project that will allow 35 people to receive the supports and services they need to find work in the mining or energy sectors.

The Province of B.C. is investing $4,990,536 to extend a successful youth employment program to March 31, 2014, which will allow an additional 1,153 participants to take part in the program.

Additional funding for a human resource strategy that supports skills training for people working in underground mining is now underway between the B.C. government and the BC Mining HR Task Force.

The Northeast and Northwest Regional Workforce Tables have completed their regional skills training plans and are ready to take action to help ensure northern B.C. communities have skilled workers to fill jobs, both today and in the future.

The B.C. government has created over 3,000 seats for skills training in colleges and universities throughout the province with an $18.7-million investment.
