Jennifer Whiteside, Minister of Mental Health and Addictions, has released the following statement regarding the BC Coroners Service report on illicit drug toxicity deaths in September 2023:

People with addiction challenges now have better access to treatment and recovery options closer to home, with 40 more publicly funded substance-use treatment beds throughout Vancouver Island.

The Province, through BC Housing, is working with local partners on a proposal to create new supportive and complex-care housing for people experiencing homelessness in North Vancouver.

South Asian people and their families living with mental-health and addictions challenges in the Lower Mainland will have access to more culturally relevant supports.

People living with complex mental-health and addiction challenges in Prince George will be connected to health-care supports as the Province adds complex-care housing services in the region.

Seniors living with mental-health and addiction challenges in B.C. who are at risk of becoming homeless will get more help navigating vital supports thanks to ongoing funding from the Province.
