The Province has proclaimed November as the second annual Aboriginal Disability Awareness Month in British Columbia, recognizing the unique contributions Indigenous people living with disabilities make to communities throughout the province. 

Following on a strong annual tradition, the Province is commemorating October as Community Living Month, a time to recognize and celebrate community inclusion and the significant contributions people living with developmental disabilities make to British Columbia communities year round.

A Creston farm that houses and employs people with disabilities will be able to thrive as a result of more than $84,000 in provincial funding.

The Province has proclaimed May 20, 2016, as B.C.’s third Aboriginal Social Enterprise Day to celebrate the accomplishments of Aboriginal social enterprises and their contributions to the vitality of British Columbia and the strength and resilience of Aboriginal communities.

The Province is investing $761,038 to provide 75 at-risk youth with valuable work experience through temporary employment placements with social enterprises in the Lower Mainland and Greater Victoria regions.  

B.C. social enterprises make positive social, cultural and environmental contributions to the province, but until now, there has been limited information about the sector and its labour-market challenges.
