The Province is providing the Rick Hansen Foundation with $9 million to further their work building accessibility in B.C.

To further reduce barriers and make services and resources more easily accessible for people with disabilities, the Province is providing the BC Spinal Cord Injury Community Services Network (BC SCI Network) with $5 million to enhance their services for British Columbians with a physical disability.

A government-funded skills training program is giving eight people real-world work experience and training in the public works sector to help them find full-time employment and join in on British Columbia’s growing economy.

Thanks to the launch of a new motorcycle permit for people with disabilities, created by SPARC BC and supported by the provincial government, more people will be able to make use of designated parking spots, which will allow them to have access to parks, recreational facilities and services in their communities.

This September, British Columbia will celebrate inclusive employers and the contributions of people with disabilities in the workplace with the third-annual Disability Employment Month.

The expansion of the Experience the Fraser Canyon to Coast Trail will continue thanks to more than $335,000 of government funding and five people gaining work experience in the construction and trail-building sector.

British Columbians will have a lot more information about the accessibility of B.C.’s northern parks once a Job Creation Partnership with the government and Spinal Cord Injury BC is complete. Minister of Jobs, Tourism and Skills Training and Minister Responsible for Labour Shirley Bond announced the project on July 4.

The Experience the Fraser trail system has been expanded and enhanced throughout the Chilliwack and Mission areas, giving five people valuable work experience that will benefit residents and visitors for years to come.
