Revelstoke’s Food Security Strategy is putting down roots, thanks to more than $13,000 in provincial funding for two work experience participants to develop food security programs with Community Connections Revelstoke.

More than 2,800 single parents on income and disability assistance are already getting the supports they need to find employment and build a more secure future through the Single Parent Employment Initiative (SPEI), a program that provides skills training or work experience and wrap-around supports.

A new focus on social innovation in the Community and Employer Partnerships program will support B.C.’s growing social-enterprise sector and increase the potential for social innovation in B.C.

The Province is investing $761,038 to provide 75 at-risk youth with valuable work experience through temporary employment placements with social enterprises in the Lower Mainland and Greater Victoria regions.  

Government is taking action to ensure that everyone who holds a BC Bus Pass will continue to have access to public transit systems across the province now that TransLink is closing its fare gates.

A program that helps youth with developmental disabilities and their families navigate the services and supports they need as they transition to adulthood will soon have a much wider reach in British Columbia.

To create equity in the system the Province is investing $170 million over the next three years to ensure about 100,000 people on disability assistance in B.C. will receive a rate increase of up to $77 a month as of Sept. 1, 2016.

Social Development and Social Innovation Minister Michelle Stilwell introduced legislation that will make it easier for some people with disabilities to receive disability assistance.
