B.C.'s commitment to make the province the most progressive place in Canada for people with disabilities is being ignited through a new partnership with the Rick Hansen Foundation.

Two people are rolling up their sleeves and getting valuable work experience as the B.C. government partners with the Kindale Developmental Association, contributing more than $27,000 to start a volunteer community gardening program.

Premier Christy Clark has unveiled Accessibility 2024, a 10-year plan that responds to the voices of thousands of British Columbians who took part in a three-month long public consultation on making B.C. the most progressive place in Canada for people with disabilities.

As the B.C. government releases a report summarizing what was heard throughout a disability white paper consultation, it has taken an important first step with a commitment to create an accessibility secretariat.

The majority of the funding will help community dental clinics deliver dental care to vulnerable populations, including children, seniors, First Nations, people with disabilities, people experiencing homelessness and people receiving income and disability assistance.

Volunteers building new homes for hard working, lower-income families or a café reinvesting its profits in neighbourhood programs and services.
