Two new housing projects are on the way to Sooke that will provide 75 affordable rental homes for people with low to moderate incomes, along with 33 supportive homes for people experiencing homelessness in the community.

The Province is working in partnership to deliver new affordable rental homes for people with low to moderate incomes in Vernon and Oliver.

To support people experiencing homelessness who need a safe, secure place to stay in Williams Lake, the Province is partnering with the Cariboo Friendship Society to open a temporary Emergency Response Centre (ERC).

Local governments will have the opportunity to apply for the second round of the Province’s Poverty Reduction Planning & Action Program grants to help develop local strategies and solutions to address poverty.

Organizations and agencies in B.C.’s community social services sector will be better able to build capacity, support recruitment and retention, and improve occupational health and safety training programs for staff, thanks to $10 million in one-time funding from the Province.

Up to 15 people will gain new skills and training as community support or mental health care workers in the Campbell River area thanks to funding from the Government of British Columbia.

Community-based supports for vulnerable and low-income people throughout B.C. are being boosted through a series of local government poverty reduction initiatives.
