New maintenance contracts have been awarded for service areas in the Fraser Valley and Nicola, with improved standards and better highway conditions for British Columbians, year round.

More than 500 people submitted ideas to improve safety and access at Cathedral Grove in MacMillan Provincial Park during consultations that began in fall 2018.

Work will begin later this month on a new passing lane on Highway 19 near Campbell River, which will make the drive along this section of highway safer, quicker and more reliable for people.

Drivers are advised that two lanes will be closed on the Alex Fraser Bridge this weekend and next to complete joint repair work on the south approach.

A detour will be in effect for motorists destined for Barnston Island and Surrey Bend Park from 3 p.m. on Friday, June 7, until 5:30 a.m. on Monday, June 10, 2019.

The ministry is notifying drivers that weekend work will begin in the northbound and southbound slow lanes on Highway 11 between Harris Road and the Mission Bridge on June 7, 2019.

Motorists are advised that a 4.5-kilometre section of the Port Mellon Highway will be repaired and resurfaced with wider lanes from early June through to the end of August 2019, weather permitting.

Drivers are advised that work to replace the Whitewater and Lyle Creek bridges gets underway this week, which will cause minor delays on Highway 31A.
