Drivers are advised Highway 1 will be reduced to one lane eastbound and one lane westbound starting tonight, March 27, 2025, at Flood Hope Road in Hope (Exit 165) to address a rapidly deteriorating sinkhole across the eastbound lanes.

Contractors that build and maintain British Columbia's transportation infrastructure have been honoured for their approach to service and innovation, while helping people and goods stay on the move.

The Province has selected four qualified teams to participate in the request for proposals (RFP) stage to design and construct permanent repairs to a section of Highway 8 approximately 15 kilometres east of Spences Bridge.

Consulting engineers have been honoured for their work to improve transportation in British Columbia, including reconnecting communities on highways damaged in 2021 flooding, improving bus service in Greater Vancouver and improving safety and traffic flow on the Lions Gate Bridge. 

Flood waters in the Abbotsford area continue to recede allowing the eastbound lanes on Highway 1 between Highway 11 east to Cole Road to be open for emergency access to agricultural operations in the area.   

Following recent flooding events earlier this month and with the potential for more seasonal flooding in communities surrounding the Okanagan Lake in the coming weeks due to increased snowmelt and forecasted warmer weather, Emergency Management BC asks that residents in the area take precautions to ensure personal safety.

Increased water levels due to continued inclement weather and melting snowpack are expected in the Northeast, Central and Southeast regions of British Columbia, and there is an associated potential for further flooding and landslides.
