Following extensive consultations with British Columbians, the Province has received valuable feedback that will help shape British Columbia’s first-ever Coastal Marine Strategy, co-developed with coastal First Nations.

Due to increased grizzly bear activity in the upper Chilko River area during salmon-spawning season, access to Chilko-Newton Road, south of Henry’s Crossing, will be closed from Sept. 1 until Oct. 31, 2023.

The Province of B.C. and McLeod Lake Indian Band have reached new agreements outlining how co-management and stewardship of the land and natural resources in the Nation’s territory will evolve.

B.C. communities can look forward to high-quality data to support effective and informed decision-making on the planning and management of wildfires, landslides, floods and other natural events.

With an investment of $8.9 million over three years, the Government of B.C. is partnering with First Nations representatives to develop the first training initiative that will support co-management of land and resources.
