The B.C. government has established 6,482 old growth management areas (OGMAs) under the Oil and Gas Activities Act.

Environment Minister Mary Polak introduced new legislation that, if passed, will add more than 11,700 hectares to B.C.’s protected areas system, including the establishment of a new Class A provincial park.

Premier Christy Clark announced the creation of B.C.’s newest Class A provincial park in the northern region of the province, which makes up part of the only known inland temperate rainforest in the world.  

British Columbians are invited to comment on proposed amendments to the boundaries of about 375 existing old growth management areas within the 100 Mile House Natural Resource District.

Following a public review and comment period and discussions with local First Nations and stakeholders earlier this year, the boundaries of about 400 existing old growth management areas (OGMAs) in the Quesnel Natural Resource District have been adjusted.

The Province is holding a series of regional meetings over the next two weeks to get feedback on a plan to preserve the unique ecosystems of the Ancient Forest, Shirley Bond, Minister of Jobs,Tourism and Skills Training announced.

The government of British Columbia is protecting more old-growth forests and enhancing biodiversity by establishing another 27 old growth management areas.

The Cheakamus Community Forest near Whistler and the Province of British Columbia have signed an Atmospheric Benefits Sharing Agreement that enables the creation and sale of carbon offsets generated through improved forest management.
