Murray Rankin, Attorney General and Minister Responsible for Housing, has issued the following statement in recognition of Homelessness Action Week, Oct. 9-15, 2022:

Government is committed to making British Columbia a safe harbour, welcoming those fleeing war and violence in their own countries and supporting the integration of all newcomers to B.C.

New rent supplements, transition workers and a no-limit earnings exemption will help youth from care make stronger transitions to adulthood.

Listening and learning from service providers, such as the Prince George Sexual Assault Centre, is part of work to develop a provincial action plan to help end gender-based violence, support survivors and promote healing, community awareness and prevention.

People experiencing or at risk of homelessness in Richmond are moving into new safe and secure homes with the opening of a 40-unit temporary supportive housing building.

People will soon be able to get better protection against COVID-19, as the Province rolls out the new combination bivalent vaccine through its fall booster program.

That familiar September feeling is in the air as thousands of students return to school throughout B.C. this week, anticipating the new school year while looking forward to reconnecting with friends and meeting new teachers. Whether they’re coming back to the school they were at last year, or moving to a new one, it’s an exciting time to embrace the opportunities and challenges the year will bring.
