Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Todd Stone has issued the following statement on the appointment of Frank Carson as the new BC Transit board chair, beginning July 4, 2016:

The Province is providing more funding to BC Transit to significantly increase handyDART service hours in Victoria, benefiting persons with disabilities and seniors.

Senior citizens and persons with mobility issues in Comox Valley will benefit from an expansion of the handyDART service in the community, thanks to funding set aside by the province and the Comox Valley Regional District.

Kelowna will see expanded handyDART service hours that will benefit seniors and persons with disabilities, thanks to a funding lift by the province and the City of Kelowna.

The Government of Canada remains committed to making significant investments in infrastructure that will improve our public transit systems, strengthen Canadian communities, and help grow the economy.

Seniors and persons with mobility issues in Merritt will benefit by a new HandyDART service in the community, thanks to funding set aside by the Province and the City of Merritt.

Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Todd Stone announced $2 million in new provincial and federal funding for the now $5-million Highway 16 Transportation Action Plan, outlined the progress made to put the plan in action and opened the application process for new community vehicles.

A government review of BC Transit has made 28 recommendations that offer BC Transit and its partners an opportunity to support efficient and effective transit service in more than 130 communities outside Metro Vancouver.

Chilliwack will see expanded handyDART service hours that will benefit seniors and persons with disabilities, thanks to funding earmarked by the province and the City of Chilliwack.
