Ongoing efforts to make health-care systems culturally safe and accessible for all First Nations Peoples, Inuit and Métis peoples in B.C. and across Canada are being strengthened with the creation of a ground-breaking repository of resources at the National Collaborating Centre for Indigenous Health (NCCIH).

The governments of Canada and British Columbia continue to invest in local infrastructure during this unprecedented time to meet the needs of communities, enhance peoples’ quality of life, and support economic recovery from COVID-19. 

British Columbia’s network of public electric vehicle (EV) fast-charging stations is expanding with the opening of eight new stations in Squamish, Pemberton, Whistler, Lillooet and Sechelt, making it easier for people commuting to charge up their EVs.

The Government of B.C. is supporting the shíshálh Nation’s plans to build and operate new culturally appropriate housing for their members, with a particular focus on Elders, women and children, and others in need of affordable housing in their community.  

People living on Texada Island and Haida Gwaii will soon have faster and more reliable internet access, thanks in part to grants from the Connecting British Columbia program.

Construction has started on a new housing development with 24 affordable rental homes for families and seniors with low to moderate incomes in Powell River.

People and communities throughout B.C. will have the on-the-ground support they need to respond to the overdose crisis and help save lives, with the addition of two new community action teams (CATs) and additional support for existing teams.

Drought and water scarcity continues to impact most of the southern half of British Columbia.

It will be easier for B.C. families to buy, serve and enjoy beef, pork and poultry raised in their own communities under a new meat licensing system that supports farm businesses in rural parts of the province and makes it easier to sell locally raised meat in B.C.
