With warming temperatures increasing the likelihood of rising water levels, British Columbians are encouraged to prepare for potential spring floods, while the Province, local governments and First Nations work together to keep people and communities safe.

Drivers are advised that Highway 5 (Coquihalla Highway) will remain closed until at least Saturday afternoon between Hope and Merritt due to extreme weather conditions.

Snow and freezing rain forecast for today until Tuesday means poor driving conditions on highways in the southern Interior.  Drivers are urged to avoid non-essential travel.

Heavy snowfall mixed with freezing rain is expected to create hazardous road conditions on Highway 3 from Hope to Princeton and Princeton to Hedley, beginning this evening and persisting until Monday.

Drivers are advised that heavy snow, freezing rain and high winds overnight are expected to create poor driving conditions in many parts of the Fraser Valley and throughout coastal B.C.

The increased risk of avalanches is forcing the closure of Highway 1 in the Fraser Canyon from Yale (Victoria Street) to Boston Bar (Old Boston Bar Road) on Monday, Jan. 10, at 8 a.m.

A strong winter storm is forecast to affect many parts of B.C. from Friday through to Sunday.
