Due to recent rainfall and cooler temperatures — and in consultation with the BC Wildfire Service — BC Parks reopened portions of Mount Assiniboine Provincial Park for public use on Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2017.

BC Parks, in co-ordination with the BC Wildfire Service and Recreation Sites and Trails BC, will close backcountry access to specific areas of Wells Gray Provincial Park effective at 8 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 5, 2017. This step is being taken to help protect public safety.

With B.C. Day around the corner, everyone has a role to play in helping to prevent wildfires and having a safe, healthy long weekend.

Effective at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2017, Ten Mile Lake Provincial Park north of Quesnel will once again be opened for public use.

Hot and dry weather is in the forecast for the northwest part of the province, so the BC Wildfire Service is reminding the public that all open burning, including campfires, remains prohibited in the entire Northwest Fire Centre.

BC Wildfire Service personnel have been responding to lightning-caused wildfires throughout the Southeast Fire Centre. Although some of these wildfires are visible from surrounding communities, none of these fires is immediately threatening communities or structures.

Due to cooler temperatures and lower fire danger ratings in the northeastern portion of the Cariboo Fire Centre, BC Parks – in consultation with the BC Wildfire Service – reopened Bowron Lake Provincial Park for public use on July 28, 2017.

As a result of cooler temperatures and moderate fire danger ratings, BC Parks — in consultation with the BC Wildfire Service — has reopened southern sections of Mount Assiniboine Provincial Park for public use, effective immediately. 

As a result of recent precipitation, cooler temperatures and a moderate fire danger rating in northern portions of the Kamloops Fire Centre, BC Parks – in consultation with the BC Wildfire Service – will re-open Wells Gray Provincial Park to public use as of 7 a.m. Pacific Time on Tuesday, July 25, 2017.

In an effort to protect public safety, BC Parks, in co-ordination with the BC Wildfire Service, will close Mount Assiniboine Provincial Park to inbound traffic effective immediately.
