Individuals wishing to provide feedback on an intentions paper proposing how land might be protected in the South Okanagan now have until Oct. 31, 2015, to offer input.

Effective at noon on Thursday, Sept. 10, 2015, campfires will once again be allowed throughout the Cariboo Fire Centre’s jurisdiction. However, the burning of waste or slash piles is still prohibited.

Effective at noon on Thursday, Sept. 3, 2015, Category 2 and Category 3 open fires will once again be permitted in all forest districts within the Coastal Fire Centre’s jurisdictional area, except parts of the South Island Forest District.

The BC Wildfire Service reminds everyone planning to head into the backcountry or go camping on the Labour Day long weekend to comply with provincial legislation related to campfire use and open burning.

British Columbia’s tourism sector continues to show growth in international overnight visitors. There were an additional 52,872 more visitors in June of 2015 compared to 2014 – representing a 9.5% increase over June 2014. This brings the total number of visitors to B.C. in the January to June period up by 156,856 visitors – or 8.3% – over the same period last year.
