As part of the Province’s over $80-million investment in emergency preparedness and public safety, MLA for Chilliwack-Hope Laurie Throness has announced a number of flood prevention projects for the region on behalf of Minister of State for Emergency Preparedness Naomi Yamamoto.

The Honourable Amarjeet Sohi, Minister of Infrastructure and Communities, and B.C. Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Todd Stone announced that work is beginning to improve the Malahat section of the Trans-Canada Highway (Highway 1) between Shawnigan Lake Road and Aspen Road.

Modern and efficient roadways are crucial to encouraging and supporting economic activity, facilitating trade, and creating good paying, middle-class jobs.

Construction is about to begin on a $59-million Highway 1 project through Langley, which will create better traffic flow and increase capacity on a key stretch of the Trans-Canada Highway.

Twenty B.C. community and regional airports will share over $10 million in funding this year through the B.C. Air Access program for airport infrastructure improvements.

Design work is underway for a Highway 9 shoulder enhancement and resurfacing project that will provide a safer, smoother and more efficient ride for motorists, cyclists and pedestrians.

Anahim Lake and Williams Lake airports will receive $78,750 in combined funding from the B.C. Air Access Program this year.

Richmond will receive $586,250 in BikeBC funding this year for the River Drive multi-use pathway.

Powell River Airport will receive $1.03 million in funding from the B.C. Air Access Program for runway improvements, increasing safety and accessibility at the airport.

Chilliwack will receive $150,420 in BikeBC funding this year for the Industrial Way bicycle lanes from Old Orchard to Progress Way.
