New changes to the mining code put British Columbia at the forefront of global standards for the safety of tailings storage facilities (TSFs) at mines operating in B.C.

Peter Fassbender, Minister of Community, Sport and Cultural Development, on behalf of Premier Christy Clark, will present Ray Abernethy, a well-known Burnaby citizen, with the province’s newest honour, the Medal of Good Citizenship.

By noon today Highway 97 south from Mackenzie Junction to Chetwynd will be open to single-lane alternating traffic with intermittent delays at a number of sites along the route.

As part of the public safety funding announced in February 2016, the Province is committing $200,000 in funding toward a flood mitigation project in the Central Okanagan that will help protect against flooding in the Lower Mission neighbourhood of Kelowna.
