Visitors will soon be able to book more backcountry adventures at Garibaldi Provincial Park, a favourite backcountry destination for outdoor enthusiasts.

The Province, in partnership with the BC Community Bat Program and other concerned groups, are asking the public to be on the lookout for dead or sick bats that may have contracted an invasive fungal disease called White Nose Syndrome.

Between bannock-making lessons in Burns Lake, skating in Port Alice and human dogsled races in Kaslo, there’s no shortage of fun activities to choose from over the upcoming BC Family Day long weekend.

Whether you’re sticking close to home or itching to hit the road for Family Day on Feb. 13, various activities beckon – and the Province wants you and yours to get there safely.

To further reduce barriers and make services and resources more easily accessible for people with disabilities, the Province is providing the BC Spinal Cord Injury Community Services Network (BC SCI Network) with $5 million to enhance their services for British Columbians with a physical disability.

The Province will increase and strengthen conservation in its world-renowned parks with a new investment of $35 million over the next three years.

The public is encouraged to purchase their new BC Parks plates at Autoplan broker offices and show their support for provincial parks through images of a Kermode Bear, Purcell Mountains or scenic Porteau Cove.

The Province is providing $385,000 to offer incentives for zero-emission specialty-use vehicles, helping businesses and vehicle fleets lower fuel costs and reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, and supporting the zero-emission vehicle sector in British Columbia.

Environment Minister Mary Polak and Natural Gas Development Minister Rich Coleman have issued an environmental assessment certificate to Nova Gas Transmission Ltd. for the North Montney Mainline Pipeline project, which is a natural gas pipeline approximately 301 kilometres long in the Peace River Regional District in northeast British Columbia.
