In response to Minister of Public Safety and Solicitor General Mike Farnworth’s request for federal support to assist British Columbia's work on flooding in B.C., Farnworth has expressed his gratitude and thanks for the federal government’s commitment to help:

Following recent flooding events earlier this month and with the potential for more seasonal flooding in communities surrounding the Okanagan Lake in the coming weeks due to increased snowmelt and forecasted warmer weather, Emergency Management BC asks that residents in the area take precautions to ensure personal safety.

Increased water levels due to continued inclement weather and melting snowpack are expected in the Northeast, Central and Southeast regions of British Columbia, and there is an associated potential for further flooding and landslides.

Inclement weather is expected in the Central and Southeast regions of British Columbia over the next two days, and more flooding is anticipated with the potential for landslides.

Disaster Financial Assistance (DFA) eligibility has been expanded and is now available to eligible British Columbians in the Kootenay region of the province for those who may have been impacted from the flooding that began on May 4, 2017.

Work at a number of streams affected by flooding in the Peace District last June will be completed before the spring run-off.

Engineering work is underway to build a bridge structure to replace the culvert at Commotion Creek on Highway 97.

A new bridge is being planned to replace the drainage culverts at the 8th Street crossing of Dawson Creek.

As part of the Province’s over $80-million investment in emergency preparedness and public safety, MLA for Chilliwack-Hope Laurie Throness has announced a number of flood prevention projects for the region on behalf of Minister of State for Emergency Preparedness Naomi Yamamoto.
