Premier John Horgan has issued the following statement to mark 100 days since the swearing in of a new provincial government:

The Province is providing $76,000 for a program that helps multicultural seniors, who are new to Canada, feel more comfortable and confident when they are out in the community.

Five B.C. multicultural champions were recognized Nov. 18, 2016, before friends, family and their peers at the seventh British Columbia Multicultural Awards. The awards recognize British Columbians whose exceptional work helps bring diverse cultures together by embracing diversity and promoting multiculturalism.

Along with the United Nations, the UNHCR, the Government of Canada and civic groups in more than 100 countries, the Province has proclaimed June 20, 2016, as World Refugee Day in British Columbia.

Premier Christy Clark, Minister Responsible for Multiculturalism Teresa Wat and community leaders gathered at Vancouver’s Mountain View Cemetery to honour Chinese ancestors and the community for their contributions to British Columbia as part of a Qingming Festival ceremony.

Empowering older British Columbians is the main focus of funding announced by Attorney General Suzanne Anton and Port Moody-Coquitlam MLA Linda Reimer on behalf of Health Minister Terry Lake.

The Province is taking a number of steps to prepare for the arrival, resettlement and integration of refugees in B.C.
