Five Indigenous communities on the north and central coast will join B.C.’s clean-energy sector with local projects following support from the Province.

Ten First Nations throughout the province will receive funding to develop alternative energy projects and advance energy efficiency in their communities through the British Columbia Indigenous Clean Energy Initiative (BCICEI), with provincial support through CleanBC.

The Province is urging people on B.C.’s North Coast to prepare and be diligent as Environment and Climate Change Canada has issued weather alerts for heavy rain, strong winds and freezing temperatures, expected to arrive Saturday, Nov. 20 and last until Tuesday, Nov. 23.

Some of B.C.’s youngest learners and their families will benefit from an expansion of the Seamless Day Kindergarten pilot program as it grows from four schools to 25.

Drought conditions and aggressive fire behaviour have contributed to this year’s extreme wildfire season.

The Council of the Haida Nation and the federal and provincial governments have signed the GayG̱ahlda “Changing Tide” framework agreement, setting the stage for reconciliation negotiations.

Three new projects, in partnership with coastal Indigenous Nations, will target marine debris along B.C.’s shoreline, including more remote areas in Haida Gwaii and the Discovery Islands.
