Twelve First Nations throughout B.C. are receiving provincial funding to support clean-energy projects that will help their members lower energy costs and provide them access to efficient, sustainable sources of energy.

In response to the economic and trade uncertainty faced by people and businesses across British Columbia, the Province is taking action to provide stability in BC Hydro’s electricity rates during these unpredictable times, while keeping rate increases below cumulative inflation.

On Tuesday, March 25, 2025, Adrian Dix, Minister of Energy and Climate Solutions, and Minister responsible for the Columbia River Treaty, will host a virtual information session to provide an update about the status of the Columbia River Treaty modernization process and answer questions in light of new developments from the U.S.

The Province is taking action to strengthen British Columbia’s energy resilience and support local biofuel producers, ensuring cleaner transportation fuels and greater energy security for people in B.C.

To ensure rapid permitting and robust regulation of renewable energy projects, the Province will introduce legislation in spring 2025 allowing the regulation of renewable energy projects, such as wind and solar, to move under the authority of the BC Energy Regulator (BCER). The Saulteau First Nations, in partnership with EDF Renewables North America, has signed an electricity-purchase agreement with BC Hydro, which will provide clean, renewable energy to meet increasing demand for power from B.C. homes and businesses.

The Province is taking action to speed up the expansion of British Columbia’s electricity grid by enabling the BC Energy Regulator (BCER) to act as a one-window regulator for permits necessary to support the North Coast Transmission Line (NCTL) and other high-voltage electricity transmission projects.

The B.C. government has appointed a new chair and three new directors to the BC Hydro board of directors, ensuring the important work of keeping rates affordable, expanding critical electricity infrastructure to meet future demand, and effective management of drought and power imports continues to be prioritized.

BC Hydro has added a new solar-energy project to the clean-energy projects selected to advance from its call for power.
