A series of heavy rains will increase flood risk for the Fraser Valley, Sumas River

Drivers are advised the northbound lanes of the Coquihalla Highway (Highway 5) will be closed at Snowshed Hill from 12:01 a.m. until 8 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 27, 2025.

The Coquihalla Highway (Highway 5) between Hope and Merritt has reopened in both directions following a closure caused by the Mine Creek wildfire.

People can soon enjoy another area of the popular Coquihalla Canyon Park this summer with the northern portion of the park reopening on Friday, June 27, 2025, providing access to three of the five historic Othello Tunnels.

Wildfire activity is increasing in the B.C. Interior and travel on some provincial highways is being affected.

A portion of Coquihalla Canyon Park, including the first two Othello Tunnels, will reopen in mid-July.  

People will be able to enjoy part of the popular Coquihalla Canyon Park in summer 2024 as construction work will soon begin to repair infrastructure damaged by severe weather.

People living on the South Coast are encouraged to prepare for a series of rainstorms starting Saturday, Jan. 27 and extending to Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2024.

The Province is encouraging people to prepare and be vigilant as several weather warnings have been issued for a storm that will bring heavy rain, strong winds and snow to some areas. The storm will impact B.C. on Monday, Dec. 4, and should ease on Tuesday, Dec. 5.

The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure will close Highway 1 through the Fraser Canyon on Monday, Dec. 4 at 7 p.m. (Pacific time), with heavy rainfall and rain on snow at higher elevations in the forecast.
